I can't believe Severus Snape, Master Occulmens and super spy, habitually talks in his sleep, revealing all his inner woes to anyone who cares to listen. It must have been an after-effect of Nagini's venom, or something to do with the potions Poppy was dosing him with. Or maybe the author was being lazy and wanted a quick and easy way to reveal to our heroine the innermost feelings of one of the most private characters in fiction.
I have to admit it was a striking image for him to be begging Hermione for forgiveness in his sleep. Lily was a cold-hearted bitch, wasn't she?
Author's Response: I chose to use that method both because I think Nagini's bite had shattered his entire world, and his survival, unexpected by him, had reformed it, but much differently than before. And, somehow, it fit:) I write very much from my heart, rather than plotting and planning, and this is what came up on the screen. I hope you are enjoying the story, even if you think the plot device was a little contrived.

Severus gave in to Minerva with little resistance. And, freely admitted owing a debt of gratitude to Hermione!
I liked Hermione remembering her care of Snape while working with Madam Pomfrey. Interesting that she doesn't realise or doesn't want to look further into her motives for his care and why she continues to care for him. ;)
Author's Response: This is only a couple of months after the war, and everyone is still kind of finding their way. For the Trio and for Snape, especially, a lot of things have changed, and they are, if you'll forgive the cliche, "boldly (or not) going where no one has gone before." Imagine thinking for seven years that Snape is your enemy and hates your guts, and then you learn that your survival has depended on him more times than you know. He's done nothing but put you down and sneer at you for seven years and now he owes you a life debt. And they are growing up. As for Severus...He didn't expect to survive. He never planned for what came after, because, as far as he could see, there wouldn't be one for him. So they are all kind of gingerly finding their way.

Author's Response: I want to think that Severus CAN mellow after the war, and I'm concerned that we fan-fiction writers have trapped him in amber ourselves by writing him as still horrible to everyone after the war. I'd like to think he'd be smarter than that, have learned from his mistakes. Plus, I can't imagine him reading some of the passages from Cyrano with gritted teeth. It wouldn't have the same effect, at all:)
